The High Performance Center Stuttgart (HLRS) has been selected by the European Union to build an AI factory. With a particularly powerful supercomputer infrastructure, the HLRS will in future make it easier for research institutions, start-ups and companies to gain secure and local access to machine learning platforms. The Stuttgart region is one of seven locations in Europe.

With the help of "HammerHAI", as the new AI factory in Stuttgart is called, companies and start-ups will be able to feed their own data into the supercomputer in the future. With artificial intelligence and the support of the HLRS, the data will be analyzed and then further processed by the companies. The EU is investing around 85 million euros in the AI factory in Stuttgart. 13 new employees will be hired there.

The HLRS is an institution of the University of Stuttgart. It coordinates the AI factory and is supported by German partners such as the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the Society for Scientific Data Processing Göttingen.

In addition to the HLRS, the EU is establishing six other AI factories at leading research and technology centers in Europe:

• Barcelona, Spain
• Bologna, Italy
• Kajaani, Finland
• Bissen, Luxembourg
• Linköping, Sweden
• Athens, Greece
