The community of Gingen an der Fils with around 4.400 inhabitants, in the middle of the Staufer district of Göppingen and conveniently located on the Stuttgart-Ulm railway line and on the federal highway 10, is an attractive residential and commercial location in the Middle Fils Valley. The next largest cities Göppingen, Geislingen, Schwäbisch Gmünd and Ulm are easily accessible.
The community is a popular starting point for hikes due to its attractive scenic location at the foot of the Swabian Alb.
Outstanding sights include the St. John's Church, built in the late Gothic style with the oldest dated church inscription in the German-speaking area from 984, and the Heimatstube (museum) of the Danube Swabians from the Lower Baranya in the station building.
