Wangen is an attractive community in the Göppingen district with around 3.500 inhabitants. The place is extremely attractive on a hill above the Filstal on the edge of the Schurwald. Surrounded by meadows, fields and abundant stands of orchards, Wangen was purely agriculturally oriented for centuries.
Today the community is a preferred place to live with quiet and laid-back settlements, a wide range of jobs in the commercial and service sectors, an excellent infrastructure and the best transport and local transport connections.
In 1971, Oberwälden was incorporated into the municipality, whose village structure has been preserved to this day and has been promoted through targeted village development measures. In the Our Village Should Become More Beautiful competition, Oberwälden won three state gold medals, one federal bronze medal and one federal silver medal.
The focus of municipal development is on town center redevelopment measures and the development of residential development areas. The new fire station, the local library, the renovation of the town hall, the school expansion and the construction of the Forstberghalle have enriched the community. By expanding the commercial area, jobs will be secured and created.
Active leisure activities in cultural and sporting terms are made possible by well-developed cycling and hiking trails, sports fields, tennis courts, the sports and leisure center on Forstberg and the wide range of offerings from local clubs. Wangen is also known for its above-average and high-quality gastronomy offerings.
What was once a small Swabian village has now become a modern community with a high quality of living.
