Markgröningen is located 20 km northwest of the state capital Stuttgart, near the Stuttgart-Heilbronn motorway.
Over the last 40 years, the former free imperial city has developed from a small town with around 6.000 inhabitants to a center for the surrounding area with around 14.000 people. All types of schools are available on site, regionally important facilities include a rehabilitation hospital, the state school for the physically disabled and the home for the disabled. Well-known medium-sized companies are based in Markgröningen, global companies have branches here and the city has an efficient trade and active craft businesses, which together provide almost 6.000 jobs. The designation of further areas for residential construction and commercial development is imminent.
Field paths, hiking trails, the two large landscape protection areas in the Glems and Leudelsbach valleys as well as the numerous natural monuments in the area create an attractive offer for local recreation. The highlight of the cultural life of the city with its historic core is the annual shepherd's run. This traditional festival attracts thousands of visitors from near and far every year.
