Hemmingen can look back on a long history. The place was first mentioned in documents at the end of the 9th and beginning of the 10th century. Today, the old town hall, a classicist building from 1842, a former craftsman's house, the old parsonage from 1804/05, the old schoolhouse as well as the church and the castle with the fruit box are grouped around the spacious castle square. The Protestant parish church of St. Laurentius is essentially a Gothic west tower complex with remarkable tombs and a late Gothic baptismal font. The palace complex includes an English landscape garden, which has been open to the public since 1987.
