The Hohenstaufen town of Göppingen lies between Stuttgart and Ulm in one of the most beautiful landscapes in Baden-Württemberg. The city is easily accessible via the A8 Stuttgart – Munich and the federal railway. Stuttgart-Echterdingen Airport can be reached in about 30 minutes by car.
In the 19th century, industrial and commercial enterprises began to settle in Hohenstaufenstadt on a larger scale. Despite changing economic structures, Göppingen has always remained an important industrial city. Above all other industries, the metal sector dominates locally. Company names such as Märklin, Schuler and Boehringer are inextricably linked to Göppingen.
Göppingen has also been a university town since 1988. The mechanical engineering, manufacturing systems and micromechanics/microelectronics courses offer students future-oriented training and meet the requirements of industry in the Göppingen area.
Göppingen is a city with a diverse cultural and sporting offering, with beautiful parks and varied leisure activities, with cozy cafes, restaurants and well-kept hotels. Right in the center, pedestrian zones invite you to stroll and linger. Here people know how to socialize and celebrate parties.
Worth seeing are the town hall, which was built in 1785/86 under Duke Karl Eugen, the Adelberger Kornhaus from 1514, the Renaissance castle with castle garden and stable building and the Oberhofenkirche, the oldest building in Göppingen, built between 1436 and 1490. The Municipal Gallery shows national exhibitions of contemporary art. A visit to the Märklin Museum is an experience for young and old.
Göppingen, named after the Alemanni leader Geppo, is closely linked to the Hohenstaufen imperial family, whose former ancestral castle was built on the Hohenstaufen around 1070 and destroyed in 1525. The 684 m high, historic Hohenstaufen mountain is the landmark of the attractive landscape around the community.1
