Dürnau is a predominantly rural community, but it has a lot to offer. Living, working and living locally is the motto. The most important infrastructure facilities are in place and a lot is being done to make Dürnau even more livable. New residential areas are being created, especially for young families, more and more environmentally friendly companies are being established in order to secure jobs and particular emphasis is being placed on strengthening and upgrading the center of Dürnau.
For those interested in culture, a visit to the glass museum is worthwhile and those who prefer to hang out in a friendly atmosphere should perhaps visit the village festival on the town hall square.
Dürnau was first mentioned in documents in 1275. The community's greatest son achieved European fame: Christoph Martin von Degenfeld. Born in 1599, he fought in the Thirty Years' War in the armies of Wallenstein and Tilly and later in the army of Gustav Adolf of Sweden. From his military campaigns in Turkey and Greece he brought the crescent moon with him, which still adorns the top of the Dürnau church tower today and has become the town's symbol.
