Elevated to a city in 1966, Ditzingen reached a population of over 20.000 after merging with the communities of Heimerdingen, Hirschlanden and Schöckingen and was elevated to a large district town in 1976. Today Ditzingen and its districts have around 24.300 residents. The marking area is 3.041 ha.
The convenient location with S-Bahn and motorway connections as well as the immediate proximity to the state capital Stuttgart have made Ditzingen a preferred residential and industrial location. Well-known companies in the electrical industry, mechanical engineering and many medium-sized industrial companies as well as craft, trading and service companies now offer a wide range of future-proof jobs.
Village and distinctly urban structures meet in Ditzingen. All the necessary facilities for a modern infrastructure can be found in the young city: a wide range of care and educational facilities, good shopping opportunities, a diverse and attractive cultural program and numerous active clubs. The town hall, the indoor swimming pool and numerous well-equipped sports and leisure facilities offer good opportunities for leisure and competitive sports.
The newly laid out city center with the new town hall, the citizens' hall, the new city library in the Dreigiebelhaus and the city museum, the city archive and the social services house in the old town hall, together with the more than 500 year old Konstanz church, form an ensemble that combines tradition and modernity connects public services in a small space.
