Steinheim an der Murr with its two districts Kleinbottwar and Höpfigheim is a typical Swabian small town. It is located at the entrance to the wine- and forest-rich Bottwartal, directly at the confluence of the Bottwar and Murr.
As a focus of the southern German seating furniture industry, the community became known beyond the country's borders at the end of the 19th century. Today the metal processing industry and the service industry are mainly represented.
A good infrastructure, the excellent standard of public facilities and the excellent sports and leisure activities also make Steinheim attractive for its residents.
The city also owes its worldwide fame to the second oldest human discovery in Europe, the approximately 250.000-year-old Homo steinheimensis, which can be seen in the Prehistoric Man Museum. Also worth a visit are the museum of the monastery and city history, the half-timbered town hall and the Renaissance market fountain.
