Birenbach really developed after the opening of the Göppingen Schwäbisch-Gmünd railway line in 1912. Today it is valued as a pleasant place to live in a beautiful landscape but still in the immediate vicinity of the centers of Göppingen and Schorndorf. The community offers its 1.900 residents all desirable facilities: kindergarten, school, gym and festival hall with a sports field and tennis facilities, good shopping opportunities and various commercial businesses.
The visitor will particularly appreciate Birenbach because of its location between the Hohenstaufen mountain and the Schurwaldhöhen, which offer beautiful and well-developed hiking trails in a wonderful landscape. The Swabian Neckar-Alb cycle path, which leads from Göppingen to Schwäbisch Gmünd with only a moderate gradient, is particularly popular.
Birenbach's landmark is undoubtedly the pilgrimage church of Our Lady of Sorrows, which was built at the end of the 17th century.
