On the northern edge of the metropolitan area around the state capital Stuttgart, where open countryside and nature meet with a well-functioning infrastructure, lies the large district town of Bietigheim-Bissingen in the middle Neckar valley.
Industrialization began here in the middle of the 19th century, clearly visible in the construction of the Enz Viaduct, today's landmark of the city. Bietigheim became a railway junction and with the settlement of large companies it developed into a modern industrial city. A wide variety of sectors from industry, trade, crafts, trade and especially service companies have taken advantage of Bietigheim-Bissingen's location qualities and settled here. Today, over 20.000 jobs are available to a population of almost 40.000 residents. The city is also characterized by a high residential value, a variety of public facilities and a wide range of leisure, sports, culture and education options.
Urban redevelopment and cultural life were and are focal points in local political events, as is environmental protection, which is an essential part of all urban development planning. The historic old town of Bietigheim was renovated and renewed, enlivened with modern sculptures and made into an attractive address again.
Proud town houses, the town church, the former castle, the Untertor tower and other remains of the town fortifications still bear witness to the heyday that the town experienced, particularly in the 15th and 16th centuries. The town hall, the Hornmoldhaus (today the city museum) and the Latin school as an ensemble shape the cityscape in a very special way.
Immediately adjacent to the old town, a natural landscape park stretches along the banks of the Enzu between the districts. It provides fresh air and offers the opportunity for relaxation and peace.
