Creative industries as service providers and drivers of innovation

The Stuttgart region is a diverse, exciting and forward-looking location for companies in the creative industries. This is where ideas are not only generated and further developed, but also put into practice. With an annual turnover of around seven billion euros, the regional cultural and creative industries play a key role alongside the traditional industries of mechanical and vehicle construction. 65.000 employees work in the eleven creative sub-sectors, for example for around 300 companies in the publishing industry, numerous internationally operating architectural offices and in almost 50 companies in the software and games industry. The latter not only employs 37% of all creative professionals in the region, but also generates the most turnover in the regional cultural and creative industries.

The diverse industry creates a lively environment that also makes the Stuttgart region attractive for other sectors of the economy. The creative industry is a pioneer on the path to a knowledge-based economy and, thanks to virtual reality, artificial intelligence and state-of-the-art software solutions, is the innovation driver for small and medium-sized companies in the region.

Networking and cooperation in the creative industries

The local providers of creative services benefit from close proximity to potential clients and have therefore always worked very closely with traditional regional industries. With cultural institutions, training and research facilities and space for inventors, those interested in starting a business and innovative minds, the regional creative economy offers ideal ground for new ideas. Numerous industry-specific networks and cooperation partnerships, such as the Design Center Baden-Württemberg, the aed association for the promotion of architecture, engineering and design in Stuttgart or the professional association of freelance photographers and film designers BFF in Ostfildern, impart industry-specific knowledge, offer networking and further training opportunities and bundle creative talent Industry expertise in the Stuttgart region. From the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy in Ludwigsburg to the University of Media or the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts to the Lazi Academy in Esslingen or the Schloss Solitude Academy: the regional training and further education institutions are the pacesetters of the rapidly changing creative industries.
