ECONOMIC STRUCTURE

The Stuttgart Region's success is built on a winning combination of global players and pioneering SMEs – making it an ideal location for both manufacturers and service providers. Major international names, such as Daimler, Porsche, Bosch, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Alcatel-SEL, have their German or world headquarters here. There are also countless mid-size companies, many of them the number one in their chosen field – products from Behr, Dürr, Festo, Kärcher, Märklin, Stihl and Trumpf are known throughout the globe for their innovation and quality.

The Stuttgart Region has systematically developed its strengths. As a result, it is now a key European centre of automotive manufacturing, mechanical and electrical engineering. It is also home to many leading media and IT companies, often providing specialist services for local manufacturers.

It's no coincidence that figures provided by EUROSTAT (the Statistical Office of the European Communities) show that almost 24 per cent of employees in the Stuttgart Region work in the high-tech sector – a European record.
