SportRegion Stuttgart e.V. was founded by local authorities, sports associations and relevant county organisations in May 1996. Its tasks include:
- Promoting collaboration between local authorities in all areas of sport,
- Planning, staging and managing sporting events within the Stuttgart Region,
- Advising members on how to apply for, organise and run amateur and professional sporting events, as well as on construction of sports facilities.
