Decisions taken at an international level, particularly within the political and legal framework of the European Union, have a major impact on regional economic development. The Stuttgart Region, which has twice received the European Union's Award of Excellence for Innovative Regions, has stepped up activities at European level during recent years.
A key example of the region’s commitment to enhancing its presence on the international stage is its Brussels liaison office. Established in March 2002, the office brings the region closer to key European institutions, improving access to information, and allowing direct talks with decision-makers.
The region’s international activities also focus on forging links to other European regions with similar interests and challenges, and leveraging Europe-wide networks to jointly lobby European institutions and players.
