Independence and Co-operation
Although the Stuttgart Region is one of Europe’s leading metropolitan areas, it encompasses many small towns and rural areas – each of which has preserved its own distinctive character and identity. The towns and rural districts – while independent – co-operate closely within the scope of the Verband Region Stuttgart (association of local government authorities within the region) – an organisation unique in Germany.
